I know very little about these fellows. While in Germany in 1991 I saw posters advertising them. They reminded me a lot of John Candy in Home Alone (remember Polka, Polka, Polka?). I bought their CD and, to my great surprise, enjoyed it. Unfortunately, back in the states, I loaned it to a DJ at The Brass Rail in Sunnyvale, California, and I never got it back. The only tune that I remember was Wir Sind Rund, Nicht Wahr? which means We're Round, Right? (I think).
In early 1996, I was again in Germany and I picked up this CD, and expensive too -- 34.75 DM (about $25 US). They are pretty popular now, but not so much with people born after the war. I suspect that the young people will eventually embrace them as their reasons for disliking them are invalid. The Herzbuben sing of earlier, simpler times, of romance and fidelity.
Often on German TV, they are not comedians, but they are good sports and are able to take a kidding. I'm told that they are not Bavarian. There is a small town called Wildeck east of Bad Hersfeld on the road to Erfurt. Wildeck translates to something like Wilderness Edge, so I suppose Die Wildecker Herzbuben could mean The Countryside Loverboys.
